I wore a BC sweatshirt that Michelle's mom got me. Never really had a good time/place for it so it was nice to wear it. Saw bunch of animals. Isn't that what you do in the zoo? I took a journal with me, but i wrote nothing in it. Then the drive to DC followed. Mi madre made several wrong turns so it took a bit more than anticipated. All good though. We stayed at CQ - Club Quarters on 17th and I streets. Very nice hotel, business oriented, but WALKING distance to White House, 10min.
It was my first time to go to Washington. I almost went the wrong way (against one way sign), and was wondering why the guy behind me was beeping. He was just warning me that going right was not a good idea. I learned quick.
Friday evening was tiring, we didn't go out, it was crappy rainy weather. We ate a bunch of home-made sandwiches.
Saturday was a bit cold in the morning but it ended up being not bad. We woke up early, got some foods, and went to check out a bunch of things:
The White House
Lincoln Memorial
WWII Memorial
Korean War Memorial
Washington Monument
Ulysses S Grant Memorial
US Capitol
National Museum of African Art
Sackler Gallery
Smithonian Castle
National Air and Space Museum
National Museum of American Indian
It was really awesome to check out many museums for free. There was a whole strip of them on both sides. Easy to navigate with a map. Monkeys Grasp for the Moon was a really interesting piece that stretched three stories high. Each one a representation of the word 'monkey' in a different language or writing system were linked. Even Braille was included. Cool stuff. (by Xu Bing)

Our feet were in quite pain. No pain, no gain. We wanted gain. We took a bus to check out Eastern Market. It was a nice representation of Russian "Komarovka" (bazaar).

On our way back we took a metro. It took us like 10min to figure out how to get a ticket, even though there were clear step by step directions. The ticket had a picture of panda on it. Wonder why. My sister wondered first.
Sunday morning we didn't go anywhere but drove and were stuck in traffic for quite some time. No biggls. It was fun to chit chat with mi madre about foods and other topics and yet again realize how annoying 11year old sisters can be. It's all good, we were all teens once. It'll get better ;) I keep telling her, once she's 15-16 it will be easier. Easier than when you're 11-12. There will be problems and stuff to deal with regardless of age. I even hear some 'adults' have troubles. How weird that the world we're living in is not perfect. How weird! Human creatures. silly organisms.
Things I learned: DC's zip is 20036. At least where we were. Also, internet and GPS make it incredibly easy to plan things and find things.
Now time to head back to BC. In a little bit my mom will drive me back. Only a month until graduation. Damn. Crazy.
Always weird to have this "home" feeling. I know it's more tied to people than places but it is still hard to grasp. One thing at a time.
